There’s nothing like a great simple tote. We all use them, and we all need to have not one but multiple of them on hand. We wanted to make the simplest and most lovely tote possible. The delight of the pattern is the elevated details (leather straps! rivets! thoughtful proportions!) mixed with the exposed finished edges.
The pattern includes two sizes, the Small Day and the Big Day. The Small Day is great for small days – days when you need to carry the normal things like a water bottle, wallet, a novel, maybe some snacks, an extra scarf or layer. The Big Day is great for when you’re having a big day – when you need to bring along your computer and charger and headphones and maybe also your journal and travel art kit… You know the kinds of days we mean!
For the Daily Tote (and bags in general), we recommend using 10 oz (339gsm) canvas and up, but anything above 12 oz (407gsm) may begin to be difficult to sew on a standard home sewing machine. However, because of the single fold hems, the Daily Tote is a good candidate for heavier canvas, like 12 oz (407 gsm) or 14 oz (475 gsm) if you like your bags really stiff — just work slowly and potentially try using a heavy duty needle!
