Notes on process, on being, on feelings, on life -- all the all well!

Really Big Exciting News!

You might have guessed that we’ve been working on a big project this year. We’ve teased it, we’ve been more quiet than usual, we haven’t released anything new in a while — well...

there’s an all well sewing book in the works!

SNEAKING IN AN EDIT FROM 2023, hello! The book is here!! How to Sew Clothes! Hooray!

This has been a huge hope nearly from the start of our collaboration — so much so that we’ve been working on and talking about this book for a long time. We couldn’t stop dreaming about a sewing book that’s like a sewing lesson, the kind of thing we wished we had on the desk beside us when we started learning to sew. A sewing book like our favorite books about food: we’ve both long loved the works of M. F. K. Fisher, Tamar Adler’s An Everlasting Meal, Samin Nosrat’s Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat. Why isn’t there as much excellent sewing writing out there, as there is food writing? There are so many connections between the way those works talk about food and the way we feel and think about sewing. A book that teaches you how to sew, but that also connects sewing to the life you already have. A book with a good mix of writing, of skill-building, and patterns. And now, after all that dreaming and thinking, it’s really happening!

sample planning

We’re working with the team at Abrams Books, who have made several of our favorite sewing and craft books. The book will be 200+ pages with an envelope of pattern sheets in the back — the first time some of our garment patterns will be in print! (Something folks ask us about all the time!). It will include a bunch of new bag patterns, and a new garment pattern that isn’t out yet — with hand drawn diagrams and very detailed sewing instructions, and lots of photographs. In addition to all of that, it will have lots of thoughts on styling and planning, plus information on the practical aspects of gathering tools and materials and supplies, and how all of it can fit into whatever space you have.

There’s nothing to do yet except get excited! We’ll let you know as soon as we have a pre-order link ready. For now, we just wanted to let you in on the big exciting news! We’ll be sharing lots of the process from now on — in case you’re curious about what it’s like to make a book (lots of spreadsheets, lots of google docs!), or if you just really love behind-the-scenes studio stuff. We're currently deep in the writing, editing, sample sewing, and photoshoot planning process... and we’ll bring you along the way here on the newsletter, the blog, and on instagram!

Thanks for being a part of what’s going on at All Well. It’s our great hope that this book will make even more people feel welcome to learn to sew and make things they’re really excited about — we’re honored and thrilled to be a part of that process for anyone who picks up our patterns and makes something they love.

Hooray!
