PRE ORDER BONUS + Event + Other fun stuff for the How to Sew Clothes book release

HOW TO SEW CLOTHES releases on 2/28/23! An event in Pittsburgh! Pre order and get a Free DAILY TOTE pattern! There’s also a little Risograph art print! And a little bit of publishing info about why preorders are important! Read on…

Event at White Whale in Pittsburgh!

Join Amy in conversation with special guest Emily Anderson at White Whale Bookstore in Pittsburgh for an in person event (and streamed virtually with live closed captioning/live transcription) on March 4, 2023 at 7pm EST. RSVP on Facebook here for all the details and the link. If you preorder from White Whale here, you’ll get a special, postcard sized risograph art print included with your book! (More below!)

MASKS REQUIRED FOR IN-PERSON EVENT ATTENDANCE. * Attendee Code of Conduct: We aim to have our events be stress-free spaces for our authors and attendees. Racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, and any other forms of disrespect, harassment, hate speech, intimidation, and abuse will not be tolerated. We have a zero-strikes policy for purposeful disruptions. For more White Whale event FAQs, click here!

EVENT NOTE FOR Seattle pals:

We canceled the Elliott Bay event because they would not allow a “please wear masks!” requirement. We didn’t feel cool about organizing a big in-person event unmasked for a lot of reasons, especially when our county health officer (and the WHO) are calling for indoor masking in public. If you had that on your calendar, we’re sorry for the change and hope you understand! You will still get the riso print with your pre-order from there, with in-store pickup or shipped.

BONUS for everyone: Daily Tote PDF pattern

There’s nothing like a great simple tote. We all use them, and we all need to have not one but multiple of them on hand. We wanted to make the simplest and most lovely daily tote possible. The delight of the pattern is the elevated details (leather straps! rivets! thoughtful proportions!) mixed with the exposed finished edges – exposing and even celebrating the interior finished edges makes this bag not only extremely quick to sew, but also playfully low-maintenance and unfussy.

If you preorder How to Sew Clothes, you’ll get a link to download a free copy in your email on release day, February 28th, 2023. (Or it will be available for sale after that!) Just fill out this form so we know where to send your free Daily Tote pattern as a perk!

Risograph art print!

We’re making special sweet risograph prints, and if you add your mailing address to the pre order bonus form, you’ll be entered into a drawing to get one sent to you as a postcard. We’re sending 25 out! (In addition to EVERYONE getting the DAILY TOTE pattern!)

Pre-order from one of our two local independent bookstores, White Whale in Pittsburgh or Elliott Bay in Seattle, and you’ll get the risograph print tucked inside. Both bookstores ship in addition to doing in-store pickup!

A small, postcard sized art print! Amelia’s going to risograph print it at her studio ANEMONE. (Follow @anemone.es for some of the print process!!)

On the palest pink paper! The design is a mystery!

Why are pre orders so important?!

Pre orders for a book are super good way to support books and authors for lots of esoteric publishing reasons — two good Twitter threads about that here and here. Ordering before the release date can help a book get more attention, get on bestseller lists (since all pre order sales are counted as part of the first week’s sales!) and help booksellers decide feature the book in their bookstore. Popping into your local bookstore or preordering from their website can help the bookstore know to stock it in advance of publication, and then more people around you will be able to find it. (New local sewing friends?!)

Where to find the book!

Pre-order from one of our Seattle or Pittsburgh favorites and you’ll find the special risograph print tucked inside your book as a little all well thank you!

Find HOW TO SEW CLOTHES at Amazon, Bookshop, Powells, IndieBound, Books-A-Million, Barnes & Noble, Waterstones, Book Depository, Indigo and bookstores near you. Book Depository, Waterstones, and Bookshop ship internationally. Or try asking at your local bookstore! They should be able to get a copy for you. (The ISBN is 9781419762024!)
