KAM snaps please!

Amy’s favorite new-ish notion is KAM Snaps! We wrote about them in our newsletter, and get a lot of emails about them (cute snaps!!), so we wanted to write a little more and share in blog post form that’s easier to bookmark and return to!

They’re simple plastic snaps that are super easy to set and use, and very gentle on the skin so they’re perfect for babies and kids. Plus they come in a rainbow of colors which really adds to the cute-factor on baby clothes (though baby clothes are plenty cute on their own).

Amelia is dreaming of using them on outdoor clothes like a windbreaker for biking and hiking in! And Amy’s been putting them on baby clothes, like this romper she sewed for baby b. (Here’s the romper pattern! next time planning to add snaps at the crotch for easy diaper access.)

You can browse the KAM Snap rainbow of colors here! Amy has been using Glossy Size 20 Plastic Snaps for the baby clothes she’s been sewing. Lots of places sell them – we found sources from a number of Etsy shops, plus you can buy them from the KAM company too. We recommend looking around to find what makes the most sense for you.

If you’re buying Kam Snaps for the first time, you’ll need a setting tool, shown in the photo below. Amy’s been using the Basic Pliers and they work great – honestly the easiest time she’s ever had trying to set a snap. You can buy a beginner’s set that includes the pliers and an assortment of snap colors for around $20-$25 – and after that, buying replacement snaps is fairly inexpensive. May be a great tool to go in on with some sewing friends!

In terms of All Well patterns, you could put them on all well box top doing the simple button up hack — and do snaps instead! It could be fun to take the all well cardigan coat in a more light windbreaker-y direction with some technical fabric (Amelia likes to shop at Seattle Fabrics for that), with a simple collar from the hacking guide + a snap closure. Adding a snap to the outer pocket of the full moon bag (our free pattern!) could be super cute too. Or really a snap onto the pockets of any of the bag patterns!
